Defining the Concepts of Ethos, Pathos, & Logos
Warren and Fassett define the three concepts as:
“Ethos: rhetorical appeal that relies on appeals to listener’s sense of speaker credibility” (Warren & Fassett, 2011, p. 200)
“Pathos: rhetorical appeal that relies on appeals to a listener’s emotions” (Warren & Fassett, 2011, p. 201)
“Logos: rhetorical appeal the relies on appeals to a listener’s logical reasoning” (pg. 201) (Warren & Fassett, 2011, p. 201)
